Preventive Dentistry

To assist us in helping you maintain an attractive smile and efficient chewing function, it is imperative that we see you every six months for a comprehensive cleaning and oral evaluation. Once a year, it will also be necessary to take x-rays to thoroughly examine your teeth and gums. With preventive visits, Dr. Firouzian and his staff in Columbus, Ohio will be able to help you prevent problems before they become painful and expensive to repair. If you work with us, you will have a healthier mouth now and in the future. We maintain a well-organized system that reminds patients of their cleaning and examination requirements.

Not A Routine Cleaning
We want you to feel your recall (check-up and cleaning) visit is as important as your other dental treatment visits. The examination (check-up) portion of your recall visit includes a health history update and a soft-tissue/oral cancer screening. Dr. Firouzian will examine your bite and your temporomandibular (jaw) joints, examine your entire mouth and look for any signs of disease, particularly decay and gum disease, and prescribe any necessary treatment.

The prophylaxis (cleaning) portion of your recall visit will be provided by the dental hygienists in conjunction with Dr. Firouzian. The cleaning will start by checking the health of your gums.  We can then educate on oral health care and recommend treatment options.  There are two cleaning methods available to us, an ultrasonic scaler (cavitron) or hand scaler.  The ultrasonic scaler uses water and sound waves to remove stain and tartar.  Lastly, we polish them and floss to remove any remaining stains.  If needed, we recommend fluoride for children and orthodontic patients. 

We will recommend the best recall interval for your dental needs--usually 3 or 6 months.
